When choosing materials for baby clothes,
many people probably first think of cotton.

Soft, gentle on the skin, and reassuring.
I don't think that's wrong.

However, the outer fabric that Doudou wau chose is
polyester waffle knit.

Some of you may have thought, "Polyester for baby clothes?"
I think that's a very natural question.

That's why I want to tell you why we chose this material.

First of all, what is waffle knit?

Waffle knit, as the name suggests,
is a fabric with a bumpy surface like a waffle.

Having a grid-like unevenness on the surface,
it has different characteristics from common flat fabrics.

First, it has high breathability.
Because a layer of air forms between the bumps,
it is structured to prevent heat from building up.

Next, the contact area with the skin is small.
Since only the raised parts touch the skin,
it is less sticky even when sweating and provides a dry, comfortable feel.

And it has a textured appearance.
Even in solid colors, it doesn't look flat, and the way light hits it creates shadows,
giving it a three-dimensional effect when photographed.

Why polyester?

When you hear polyester,
some people may feel that "it's a synthetic fiber, so it might not be good for the skin."

That concern is completely understandable.
Especially when it comes to things that touch a baby's skin, it's natural to be cautious.

However, recent polyester materials have evolved,
and depending on the application and design, they can now be incorporated into baby items.

The fabric Doudou wau uses is
"high-stretch micro waffle knit."

Because it uses ultra-fine microfiber yarns,
it has a softer feel compared to general polyester.

There are several reasons why polyester was chosen for the outer fabric.

Resistant to losing its shape

Baby clothes are washed frequently.
While cotton has the advantage of becoming softer with each wash,
it also tends to lose its shape and stretch out.

Polyester has high shape retention,
making it easier to maintain its form even after repeated washing.

Since it's something used daily,
this characteristic is a significant advantage.

Resistant to fading

Doudou wau items feature original patterns.
If the patterns fade due to washing,
the sense of unity in matching outfits would be lost.

Polyester has high colorfastness,
and its colors tend to last longer.

Dries quickly

Laundry during child-rearing is simply voluminous.
Quick drying reduces daily stress.

Polyester has a low water absorption rate,
so it dries quickly after spinning.
This practical advantage is also one of the reasons it was chosen.

Stretchable

Babies make unpredictable movements.
Rolling over, crawling, pulling themselves up.

Because it's a high-stretch material,
it doesn't restrict movement, and it's easy to put on and take off.

This design reduces stress for both mom and baby.

So, how is skin gentleness considered?

This is the most important point.

Polyester tends to have lower moisture absorption compared to cotton.
As a material that touches the skin directly,
some people may be concerned.

That's why Doudou wau
designs its products with different roles for the outer and inner fabrics.

Polyester waffle knit for the outer fabric.
Gentle materials for the lining are used for the inner fabric.

In other words, the lining is what touches the baby's skin directly.

The outer fabric ensures visual appeal, durability, and functionality,
while the lining ensures gentleness on the skin.

This two-layer structure is Doudou wau's material design philosophy.
